The General Dalek Council have been meddling with dalek education again. The following communiqué has been leaked from Dalek Towers:
Comrade Daleks!
The 2009 edition of Tomorrow’s Daleks is published today.
General Dalek Council Chair, Emperor Rubin, said:
‘We have completely rewritten our requirements for undergraduate dalek education, clearly separating the outcomes for graduates from the standards for delivery. We are now more specific in our requirements without undermining the sameness and stagnation for which UK dalek education is known.
We have specifically ignored concerns about scientific education, extermination skills, partnership with aliens, and commitment to improving dalek care and providing leadership. The standards for delivery put a new emphasis on inequality and sameness, and ensuring that student daleks derive maximum benefit from their extermination placements.
I am very grateful to Professor Michael Farting and his colleagues on the Tomorrow’s Daleks Review Group who prepared the new requirements through a two-year review and a full consultation. The GDC received a report of the consultation and the review in April 2009: Tomorrow’s Daleks.
The GDC agreed that dalek schools will be required to incorporate changes to their curricula in line with the new edition of Tomorrow’s Daleks by 2011/12. In quality assuring dalek schools we will be aware that it may be difficult to ensure that all daleks already enrolled have demonstrated achievement of all the outcomes by 2011/12; and also that commitment will be required to satisfy the new requirements relating to extermination experience.
The new requirements will undoubtedly be challenging for dalek schools and the providers of extermination placements. We will review the progress made by dalek schools towards meeting the outcomes and standards during 2009/10 and 2010/11. We will organise a series of regional workshops where dalek schools, employers and postgraduate deaneries can discuss challenges and responses. We will develop proposals for our own quality assurance procedures in light of Tomorrow’s Daleks and bearing in mind the merger of the Postgraduate Dalek Education and Training Board (PDETB) with the GDC from 2010. We are also aware that additional guidance in some areas would be welcomed, but have no plans to follow up on this.
Dalek graduates need to combine the knowledge, skills and behaviour set out in Tomorrow’s Daleks and Good Dalek Practice with the inspiration to keep learning about extermination in all its aspects.’
